Kavi: Elonet+ bringing Finland’s film heritage to all
The Finnish National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI) launched Elonet+, a free national streaming service offering films, series, and archival content. Built on Icareus Video Cloud, it delivers high-quality viewing across web, mobile, and smart TVs while enabling KAVI to focus entirely on curating Finland’s rich audiovisual heritage.
Summary
The Finnish National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI) preserves and makes available Finland’s audiovisual cultural heritage. In January 2024, KAVI launched Elonet+, a free streaming service giving viewers nationwide access to Finnish films, series, commercials, documentaries, and short films – anytime and on any device.
Powered by Icareus Video Cloud, Elonet+ provides a secure, scalable platform with easy content management, robust streaming, and apps for web, mobile, and smart TVs. This enables KAVI to focus on its mission: curating and sharing Finnish audiovisual history.

Challenge
KAVI wanted to:
- Modernise its streaming offering with a service accessible across devices.
- Improve accessibility to Finland’s film and TV heritage for all citizens.
- Migrate thousands of videos and metadata from multiple legacy platforms with minimal manual work.

All this needed to be achieved without burdening KAVI’s team with ongoing technical maintenance, allowing them to focus on curation and heritage preservation.
"We are honoured that KAVI chose Icareus Video Cloud as the solution for the new Elonet+ service. It's great to see how it brings together a vast amount of national film, TV and other content history in one place, and makes it available to all Finns."
