Icareus Playout has been deployed as part of Hellas Sat’s new DVB-T2 terrestrial television network in Cyprus. Working with Ateme, a global leader in video compression and delivery solutions, responsible for the DTT headend solution and its integration, Icareus provides EPG and PSI/SI generation and HbbTV Carousel services for the network, which currently carries 11 television channels and one radio service across two multiplexes.
Cyprus switched its private free-to-air terrestrial television network to the DVB-T2 standard on 1.7.2026. The new Hellas Sat network provides the DVB-T2 broadcast infrastructure for the participating television channels, with Icareus Playout handling the EPG and HbbTV functions within the overall solution.
Icareus Playout in the Hellas Sat DVB-T2 platform
Icareus Playout is used at the broadcast head-end to generate and deliver service information, programme guide data, HbbTV signalling and software updates required by the network.
The Icareus Playout EPG platform manages the PSI/SI and EIT information used by receivers to identify television services and present programme information. Icareus Playout supports the generation and management of the necessary DVB service information and EPG data across broadcast networks.
For HbbTV services, the Icareus Playout Carousel provides AIT signalling and DSM-CC carousel functionality for distributing and signalling television applications through the DVB network. The carousel platform supports HbbTV and other interactive television standards as part of the Playout product family.
The project continues the use of Icareus Playout in terrestrial, satellite and cable broadcast environments where operators need to manage programme information, DVB signalling, interactive applications and other data services alongside their video infrastructure.
